While they’ve never admitted to such a goal, Elevation Worship continue to offer a more “contemporary” or maybe even “younger”-sounding alternative to Hillsong United or Bethel Live on their 2014 album. Not only are there drum solos, guitar solos, synth-driven beats, and other slick sounds that are right in line with the arena pop of 2014, but Only King Forever became even more hip when it was offered as a free download by the worship group, a move that didn’t keep it from debuting in the Top 40 of Billboard’s album chart. Fans rightfully thought that highlights like the title track, “Grace So Glorious,” and “Everlasting Father” were worth owning, and with the live set running just under 80 minutes with every epic allowed plenty of room to stretch, this is Elevation’s best to date, winning in both the categories of quality and quantity. Founded by Colorado Springs worship leaders Sean Mulholland and Garrett Chynoweth almost four years ago, the group began as a weekly gathering between two local worship teams. Today, the “Mob” represents 30 local churches through 70-80 ministry leaders who meet weekly to worship, pray together and encourage one another. The meetings are also “open to anyone who wants to come soak in the presence of God,” shares Mulholland.

“WorshipMob is fighting for a cultural shift – for each worshiper to fully believe in our Christ-purchased clean identity, live in compassionate unity and experience the resulting profound heart-level freedom,” continues Mulholland. “Our core mission is to share that we are all beloved sons and daughters, and to spend time learning to love our Father back with all our hearts… hopefully encouraging our friends around the world to do likewise.”

From these weekly gatherings, the WorshipMob members have found a support system among their peers that has inspired creativity and a new sense of community among churches. “We want to encourage creativity, edify through scripture and encourage one another to lead from the heart,” adds Chynoweth.

The project is highlighted by the title-cut and debut single, an original co-penned by NewSong frontman Russ Lee and All Sons & Daughters’ David Leonard and Leslie Jordan. “‘Faithful’ is a great opportunity for us to focus on the fact that we are alive only because God is faithful,” Lee shares. “He has never wavered in His devotion to us, and He never will.”

Faithful also offers NewSong’s version of the Desperation Band-penned “Make A Way.“ “As soon as we heard ‘Make A Way,’ we knew it would go over because we’ve lived through that ‘God, if you don’t come through, there’s no way’ moment in each of our lives,” says lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Matt Butler. “When Russ’ wife battled cancer. When we almost lost my daughter at birth. These songs resonate because we’ve been there, and we know our audiences are struggling with the same kinds of things.”
